How To Hide Your Last Seen Status On WhatsApp
If WhatsApp users are not comfortable sharing when they were last online, they can hide their last seen status by following a few simple steps.
If WhatsApp users are not comfortable sharing their 'last seen' status, they can turn it off or hide it altogether. The Meta-owned instant messaging platform allows users to tweak their privacy settings in ways that can help them feel safer. For instance, users can control who can add them to groups on WhatsApp. There are also other features, like end-to-end encryption and two-factor authentication, that help to make the platform more secure. While the former stops intruders from intercepting messages, the latter adds an extra layer of security to a user's account.
Nowadays, messaging platforms have become the daily communication tool for millions of users around the world. WhatsApp has over two billion active users with people using the platform to stay in touch with friends and loved ones, as well as managing their assignments or professional deadlines. However, managing all these things in one place can be tricky, and hiding the last seen status from others on WhatsApp can help to focus on one task at a time.
The 'Last Seen' or 'Online' status lets others know the last time someone used WhatsApp and if they are currently using the app. On the official support page, the platform clarifies that contacts shown as 'Online' have the application open in the foreground. In other words, they are actively using WhatsApp, even though they might not be reading messages sent by other users. On the other hand, 'Last Seen' tells users about the last activity of contacts. The Last Seen time appears right below the contact name in a chat window when the contact is not using WhatsApp.
Hiding Last Seen On WhatsApp
Some users may not want their last seen time to be visible publicly or to all of their contacts on the platform. To hide 'Last Seen' on WhatsApp, Android and iOS users need to navigate to the Settings section of the app. For Android users, this is located by tapping on the three-dot menu at the top right corner of the home screen. iOS users can directly access the Settings menu from the bottom right corner of the home screen. Once in Settings, click on Account followed by Privacy to locate the Last Seen settings. WhatsApp provides three options for users to choose from - Everyone, My Contacts, and Nobody. If Everyone is selected then the last seen time will be visible to all users on the platform. To hide the last seen status from unknown people, set it to My Contacts. Alternatively, setting to Nobody will hide the last seen time from everyone.
It is important to mention that if users don't share their last seen time with anyone on WhatsApp, they won't be able to see the last time that other contacts were online either. In any case, for those that feel like hiding this information, they can by adjusting the privacy setting, accordingly. If a user feels that they have come across a malicious account on WhatsApp, they should look to block it straightaway and not just hide their Last Seen status.
